Description

Omineca is seeking a Shipper-Receiver to join our team in Prince George, BC. This role is vital to ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of shipping & receiving processes as well as supporting overall shop and field operations.

The Shipper-Receiver will work closely with Omineca's Shop Manager and will be responsible for overseeing all shipping and receiving on-site as well as yard maintenance and organization at large. This is a safety-sensitive position which requires the successful candidate to have a high level of awareness and an ability to think critically.

A typical day for the Shipper-Receiver at Omineca involves receiving and sorting incoming shipments, loading and unloading trucks, staging materials and equipment in the yard, and maintaining detailed and accurate documentation.

Our ideal candidate is computer-savvy and detail-oriented with excellent situational awareness, and the ability to safely operate equipment such as forklifts and tele-handlers.

DUTIES

  • Load and unload large and complex shipments of steel and equipment using forklifts, tele-handlers, and manual handling techniques
  • Prepare outgoing shipments of fabricated structures, equipment and materials by packaging securely and accurately
  • Ensure outgoing items are shipped on schedule and with proper paperwork
  • Receive incoming goods, verify shipment against purchase orders for accuracy, document receipt, record shortages and reject damaged goods
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of shipped and received items, including documentation for shipping labels and bills of lading
  • Monitor shipment timelines and follow-up promptly to reduce delays
  • Communicate effectively and professionally to coordinate shipments with third parties
  • Assist with inventory counts and cycle counting to ensure stock accuracy
  • Support yard activities, including organizing storage areas and materials racks for efficiency,
  • Follow safety protocols during all loading, unloading, and material handling tasks
  • Collaborate with team members to optimize yard operations and improve workflow efficiency
  • Separate, stage, label and organize materials and metals for different work orders
  • Order coveralls, locks, and other items for new employees as directed
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of coveralls and shop consumables and ensure sufficient stock is on hand
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • 2+ years of prior experience in a shipping & receiving role
  • Previous experience with cross-border shipping considered and asset
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite
  • Experience operating forklifts and reach trucks; certification preferred but not required
  • Basic math skills for order picking, inventory counts, and measurement tasks
  • Ability to load & unload goods efficiently while adhering to safety standards
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail for accurate order fulfillment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Physical ability to lift heavy loads and stand for extended periods during shifts
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and problem solving skills
