We are hiring an experienced and diligent Project Safety Manager to provide safety leadership and oversight on current and future industrial projects in the state of Oregon. This position will work closely with Omineca’s Supervisors, Project Managers, and Safety team to ensure the organization is fulfilling its commitment to our customers and our employees by fostering a culture of safety on the worksite.

A day in the life of a Project Safety Manager at Omineca will include providing expert advice and oversight to ensure project and organizational compliance with all relevant federal, state, and customer safety requirements. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all documentation, investigations, and incident reporting on site as well as overseeing fall protection, hot work, lock out procedures, mobile equipment operation, lifting (crane, rigging, etc.), concrete work, PPE, and safety training.

Main Duties

  • Provide leadership in safety stewardship.
  • Conduct site safety inspections and ensure hazards are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Monitor site and crews to ensure compliance with rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Assess safety initiatives and make recommendations to improve health and safety on site.
  • Review and make recommendations to improve health and safety program.
  • Lead/train employees and subcontractors to achieve an incident and injury free workplace.
  • Oversee employee engagement and buy-in to the Health and Safety Program.
  • Conduct daily jobsite inspections and document observations.
  • Conduct safety training orientations for all new hires.
  • Complete incident investigations and timely reporting as required by OSHA.
  • Direct and coordinate incident investigations, providing feedback to the Supervisors and the Project Managers.
  • Participate in health & safety committee meetings and events.
  • Organize, document and participate in safety meetings and tool box talks.
  • Participate in performance management as it pertains to employee safety and security.
  • Provide training and education to employees on safe work practices, including but not limited to proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), working at heights, hot work, mobile equipment operation, rigging and hoisting, etc.
  • Manage all site safety records including safe work plans, inspections, permits, meeting minutes, and all required trade tickets.
  • Provide regularly site safety updates to Supervisors and Project Managers.
  • Assist with the development of safe work plans, corrective actions, and other necessary documents.
  • Monitor subcontractors on site.

Areas of Focus

  • Sawmill construction including installation of concrete foundations, structural steel and mechanical equipment
  • Fall protection, elevated work platforms, mobile construction equipment, cranes & rigging, hot work, and lock out procedures, etc.
  • Interacting with both Omineca and customer construction management

Qualifications

  • 5 to 10+ Years of Construction Safety Experience
  • 30-Hour OSHA for Construction certification
  • OSHA 500 (Train the Trainer) preferred
  • Trades certificate or experience with welding/fitting/millwrighting considered an asset
  • Unrestricted drivers license
  • Forklift or Telehandler instructor qualification
  • Man Lift and Scissor Lift qualification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety preferred
  • CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) or equivalent preferred
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certified

Skills and Abilities

  • Highly experienced with OSHA regulations and State Workers Compensation.
  • Proficient with the use of computers and technology.
  • Ability to produce detailed and accurate reports.
  • Considerable experience working in an industrial environment (industrial construction experience preferred).
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good judgement and strong decision-making skills.
  • Experience in accident/incident prevention, investigation, documentation, and reporting.
  • Experience in Job Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment.
  • Bend, squat, walk, and climb stairs/ladders as needed for site inspections
