Job Summary
The Yard Coordinator will report to Omineca's Shop Manager and will be responsible for yard organization, snow removal, loading and unloading large shipments of steel from trucks, as well as shipping and receiving duties. This is a safety-sensitive position which requires physical fitness and an ability to follow safe work procedures.
A typical day for the Yard Coordinator at Omineca involves operating heavy equipment such as forklifts, tele-handlers and loaders, receiving and sorting incoming shipments, staging materials and equipment in the yard, coordinating with the Shop Manager and Project Managers to schedule incoming and outgoing shipments, loading and unloading large shipments, and maintaining detailed and accurate documentation.
This is a physically demanding role which will require the successful candidate to work outdoors up to 95% of the time. Some office and computer work will be required.
Responsibilities
Yard Maintenance and Organization:
- Keep yard clear for mobile traffic and to reduce hazards.
- Maintain a tidy and organized yard space to maximize operational efficiency.
- Keep materials and metals for different jobs separated, labelled, and organized.
- Other duties as assigned.
Material Handling/Equipment Operation:
- Use forklifts, tele-handlers, and loaders to clear snow and move materials and fabricated products around the shop and yard.
- Load and unload field crew tool boxes and equipment on fleet trucks and trailers.
- Load and unload large shipments of structural steel and industrial equipment using mobile equipment.
- Safely and competently handle large steel structures, pipes, parts, and industrial equipment in tight spaces.
- Use safe rigging and hoisting procedures to move large, complex loads.
Shipping/Receiving:
- Receive incoming steel, parts, and materials and check shipments against packing slips and original orders for accuracy, record shortages, and reject damaged goods.
- Prepare and secure fabricated structures, equipment, and materials for shipping.
- Ensure outgoing items are shipped on schedule and with proper paperwork.
- Monitor shipment timelines and follow-up promptly to reduce delays.
- Communicate effectively and professionally to coordinate shipments with other parties.
- Maintain detailed records of shipments and orders.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a yard work, equipment operation, coordination, shipping/receiving, or similar role.
- Extensive experience in the safe operations of mobile equipment such as forklifts, tele-handlers, and loaders.
- Prior experience with safe rigging and hoisting of large and complex loads.
- Prior experience loading trucks with large steel structures and equipment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent spatial and situational awareness.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to exercise good judgment, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Basic computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite.
- Strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- First Aid certification is considered an asset
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and adhere to safety standards at all times.

Qualifications
- Ability to safely and competently operate forklifts, telehandlers, and loaders in high-traffic areas.
- Previous experience loading and unloading trucks.
- Rigging and slinging experience.
- Basic computer skills.
- Detail-oriented.
- Understanding of documentation needs related to shipping and receiving.
